French for beginners: What to study in your first month

Starting from zero can be daunting. Should you learn the alphabet? The colors? The "subjonctif"? (Hint: Definitely not the subjonctif yet!). Your first month sets the foundation for your entire language journey.
Week 1: The sounds and the "Golden Keys"
Before you learn words, you must learn how to produce the sounds. We focus on the French vowels and the famous "r." We also master the essential greetings. As I always tell my students, a good "Bonjour" and "Merci" will get you further in France than a hundred irregular verbs.
Week 2: "Me, Myself, and I"
You need to be able to introduce yourself. We focus on:
Your name, age, and where you are from.
The verbs "Être" (to be) and "Avoir" (to have).
Describing your family—like how I talk about my husband Claude and my three daughters.
Week 3: Survival in the city
We move on to practical nouns and verbs. How to order a coffee, ask for a price at the market in Saint-Martin, or find a pharmacy. This is where the language starts to feel "real."
Week 4: Building simple sentences
By the end of the month, we combine everything. You will start forming basic sentences using the present tense. You won't be writing novels yet, but you will be able to navigate a basic social interaction.
Why start with a native teacher?
The first month is when you form your habits. If you learn the wrong pronunciation now, it is very hard to fix later. By studying with me, you ensure that your foundation is solid, authentic, and stress-free.
